The Oscars: All Time Best Dressed
The Academy Awards are today! They will air at 5pst/8est on ABC.
In my family, the Oscars are somewhat of a tradition, my mom watched them with her mom, and now every year I watched them with her.
To be honest, I’m not that into movies, I love a good early 2000’s chick flick and a Keira Kightly period film, but it’s never been a goal of mine to watch all the best picture nominations.
And honestly, my favorite part of any award show is the gowns and the red carpet.
And I have no shame in saying that.
Now: onto today's topic, the top 10 Oscars outfits in all of Oscar history (in my opinion)
The Academy Awards are a time to turn out in glitz, glamour, and most importantly: elegance.
The VMA’s and Grammys are the time to get funky with your outfit choice, but the Oscars are a time to go classic and classy.
I chose these gowns based on 2 factors: one, the gowns I liked the most off the bat, and two, how well they fit the event. Just because something looks beautiful, doesn't mean it’s the right choice for the Academy Awards.
Now onto the all-time best dressed at the academy awards. (in no particular order)

Billy Porter in Christian Siriano 2019
Listen, as much as I love Harry Styles, we as fans need to give others, mostly Black stars, like Lil Nas X and Billy Porter the same love and respect for androgynous and feminine dressing. But beyond that, this gown is absolutely gorgeous. The tuxedo top and full gown bottom is unexpected but absolutely perfect. According to Vogue, Porter describes why he made this fashion choice saying “My goal is to be a walking piece of political art every time I show up. To challenge expectations. What is masculinity? What does that mean?” This outfit captured the attention of the carpet, and the world, And it still stands the test of time through today.

Lupita Nyong’o in Prada 2014
I mean, I feel like that image speaks for itself. Nyong’o looks like an absolute princess, and just everything about the gown is to die for. The color, the plunging neckline, the subtle train. I even don't mind the belt, and belts in dresses usually send me over the edge. The way the exact hue of the dress changed in the variations of the light, ugh just absolute perfection. Needless to say, I would do virtually anything to even get to try on this dress.

Angelina Jolie in Marc Bouwer 2004
This little angelic cream silky number is stunning. I love the neckline for Jolie. The matching wrap as an accessory is also just gorgeous. And the matching satin material shoes just complete the look. Usually, matchy can seem easy, or kitschy, but with this simple creamy fabric, Jolie's natural makeup, and the diamond necklace, it’s kind of perfect. I’ve written a post about Angelina's iconic 2012 Oscars look, and although both gowns are beautiful, I prefer this one. But, next to each other they kind of give of angel/ devil vibes, which is kinda cool.

Zendaya in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture 2018
THIS COLOR! I just love chocolate brown. I mean it's so versatile, works for every season, is so classy, works on almost every fabric, for any occasion, it's honestly just a gorgeous color. On the runway, the dress looked a little more opaque, which could have just been due to the lighting, and honestly, I liked the more opaque version just slightly more. Nonetheless, the pillowy draping over the arm and torso, and the floor-length skirt that's capable of just the most gorgeous movement, It’s absolutely breathtaking. This is another dress I would do bad things to get the chance to wear.

Martha Plimpton in Vintage 1989
Can you tell I have a thing for satin/ silk? If not, I really love satin and silk. Especially at events like the Oscars. It’s just so classic and angelic. I love the high neck and the rectangular top, and the simple, just form-fitting enough skirt. It’s almost bridal? Undoubtedly, this is one of the best dresses to come out of the concerning fashion era that was the 80’s.

Gwenyth Paltrow in Ralph Lauren 1999
Now whenever I think of Gwenyth, I think of GOOP exploding vagina candles. But BEFORE when I thought Gwenyth, I thought of this gorgeous dress. It’s linen (which I think is going to be one of the top fabrics of summer, btw) with the tiniest little straps, and a beautiful tulle shawl, all in matching baby pink.

Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell 2019
Hello, Breakfast at Tiffany's homage? Gaga has had a close relationship with Maxwell, he designed both her gowns for the Oscars and the afterparty in 2019, and he designed the iconic 4 part met gala moment. I usually don't like dresses with two distinct sections, but I do like this one. The exaggerated hips dropping into billowing skirts is very interesting, but also classic. Interesting and classy, when done right, is EXACTLY how to do the Oscars red carpet.

Grace Kelly in Givenchy Gown 1955
From top to bottom, this dress is just absolutely perfect. The double thin straps, the simple, form-fitting torso, with the long, draping, almost heavy-looking skirt, finished off with a long train, in a beautiful minty green. Every step of the way, this dress is gorgeous.

Audrey Hepburn in Givenchy 1975
By the mid-’70s Hepburn was mostly out of the limelight, however, that didn't stop her from stunning at the 1975 Oscars. In classic Hepburn fashion, she went with a Givenchy design. The bottom is just a simple white skirt, but the top portion is this beautiful, blue, gold, and cream beaded and embroidered vest, tied together in a perfect white bow. The exact design is a little expected for Audrey, but it's perfection.

Beyonce in Atelier Versace 2005
Beyonce attended the Oscars in a simple, yet gorgeous black dress, my favorite aspect of this gown is the bodice, it almost has a corset-like feel, and it's just perfect. The train is a perfect length, and it fits her like a glove, proving that when something fits well, you can never go wrong.
I hope you enjoyed looking at these beautiful gowns as much as I did. Thank you for reading and happy watching tonight!
