The United States Blindspot: Rape Culture & the Race for the President

Part Three: The Why

The reasoning for everything stated thus far is the fact that the United States and many other countries in the world live off of systematic sexism. Systematic Sexism is the structure in our society that contributes to and thrives off of sexism, misogyny, and toxic masculinity. There are a plethora of examples of systematic sexism in our society. It is present in the workplace and workforce. Most clearly in the wage gap. It is indisputable, a woman working full time makes 82 cents to every 1 dollar a man makes. Systematic Sexism and gender roles are forced upon us from a young age, through dress codes and the strict restrictions they put on girls, whilst they are relaxed when it comes to rules regarding boys. Even onesies for newborn girls and boys have binding and sexist slogans on them. Girls are told they are made of “Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice” whereas boys are told they are made of “Frogs and Snails and Puppy Dog Tails.” These ideals follow men and women for the rest of their lives, a boy is a boss when a girl is a bitch. That idea and mindset can be traced back to nursery rhymes like the one above. We live in a systematically sexist society, and because of that, men with rape allegations against them get to be president of the United States.
