THE HISTORY OF PHONE ACCESSORIES
From Paris Hilton walking the carpet holding a Motorola Razr to the coolest girls in school tapping away on their TMobile Sidekicks, cell phones have always served as a symbol of style and (unfortunately) status. That trend hasn’t died down over the years, a culture of classism and consumerism has only heightened the importance of having the coolest and newest phone.
But we are going to (like all high schools do with their problems) put those issues to the side for the moment and focus on the good. The good being all of the stylish options that come with the cell phone.
Phone cases initially were purely functional. And just like cargo shorts, functionally rarely correlates with fashion. I’m talking chunky otter-boxes that might stop your phone from a dent, but definitely don't elevate your outfit.
Wildflower cases really changed the cell phone style game. Popularized by Miley Cyrus after a run in with founders Sydney and Devon Carlson these cases made protecting your phone a stylish choice.
Starting with rockstud cased you most definitely will recognize if you were on the internet at all in 2014 these cases have become a staple on all celebrities and influencers mirror selfies.
In my opinion, wildflower cases are unparalleled in their popularity, due to their celebrity affiliation and the relevance of the owners. However if there were to be a competitor it would definitely be Casetify.
Casetify allows customers to customize their cases, so if you see someone with a phone case that says their name or something of that sort, it's probably casetify.
Both Casetify and Wildflower do influencer collaborations, which is another big part of their growth.
All of this is to say, there are many brands out there selling various styles and types of cases. And having a stylish phone case isn't a minor trend or something only serious techies are into, it’s a full on long lasting trend for everybody.
A second, more recent occurrence in the world of phone style is phone keychains. A recent trend has been crafty style, with items like crochet tops and beaded necklaces coming to fashion, it was only natural that the trend applied to phones.
String Ting originated the trend, but if you don't want to shell out a fortune for a phone chain they are an easy craft to make at home. But fair warning, they might not be as high quality and sturdy as the Strong Ting ones are, so use at your own risk. They have been spotted on celebrities such as Dua Lipa and Gigi Hadid.
Everything can be an accessory, literally anything at all! Why not the phone?
