The “Pretend You’re In Vogue” Beauty Routine
One of my favourite ways to spend a free evening is binging “Beauty Secrets” videos on Vogue’s youtube channel. I feel like I always pick up a good tip and it motivates me to stay on top of my skincare. So, I thought it was time that I post my very own “Beauty Secrets” routine here on this blog. I am pretty obsessed with skincare and I think I have found the perfect routine for me. My skin is pretty normal teenager skin, oily on my nose and the middle of my forehead, and dry around my mouth and on my cheeks, with pretty potent redness. This is just the routine that works for me and before you purchase or try any product I would recommend doing your own research and reading reviews from people with your skin type. I am no dermatologist nor esthetician so take all my tips with a grain of salt.
This is my daily routine, I follow the same steps morning and night I just use different products. In the morning I use products with a focus on dimming down redness and promoting an overall glow. While at night I focus on treatment and moisture.
Step One: Cleanser
AM: MILK makeup matcha cleanser https://www.milkmakeup.com/matcha-cleanser.html
I love this cleanser for the morning because the slight exfoliant helps wake up my skin and gives me a smooth soft base without drying my skin. Matcha also helps dull redness, which is something I definitely need. It just leaves my skin with that clean feeling.
PM: Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser https://www.glossier.com/products/milky-jelly-cleanser?search=cleanser
This cleanser is magic. All I do is pump it onto my finger tips and massage it on my face, around my eyes, and down my neck (using only upward motions to keep the skin tight). Once I feel as if it has removed all the grime from the day I rinse it off and dry my face.
Step Two: Toner
AM: MILK makeup matcha toner https://www.milkmakeup.com/matcha-toner.html
This toner is my favorite because it pairs with the cleanser to give my skin a fresh smooth feel and further helps tone down any redness or irritation.
PM: Glossier Solution https://www.glossier.com/products/solution?search=sol
When I first started using this product, my skin went bonkers, I broke out like no other and my skin reacted terribly. I immediately stopped using it. A few weeks later I slowly eased my skin back into this product, little by little, and now I can use it every day with no negative reaction. So, I do recommend this product, however this is really one you should ease your skin into, as the AHA, BHA & PHA can be too much on the skin when used too frequently. I love this product because the salicylic acid works well on my skin for treating any slight texture popping up on my skin.
Step Three: Serum
AM: Glossier “Super Glow” serum https://www.glossier.com/products/super-glow?search=super
This serum is perfect for the morning because the skin needs Vitamin C to neutralise free radicals throughout the day rather that at night. It also gives my skin a natural glow (as it repairs dead skin cells) that lasts all day.
PM: Glossier “Super Bounce” serum https://www.glossier.com/products/super-bounce?search=super
As I have mentioned, my skin can get pretty dry, but this product has really helped. Super Bounce is best on bare skin as it has no barrier to get through when treating the skin. And on dry skin hyaluronic acid works to keep the skin healthy and supple.
Step Four: Eye Cream
AM: YesTo Cucumber Eye Cream & Color Science Eye Cream https://www.colorescience.com/products/total-eye-3-in-1-renewal-therapy-spf-35
One of my biggest insecurities is my dark and puffy eyes, so the YesTo eye cream is perfect because it calms down my puffy eyes and is the perfect refreshing product for my skin in the morning. I love the Color Science eye cream because although it is expensive it protects my eyes from the sun (as it has SPF) and it helps tone down the darkness.
PM: YesTo Cucumber Eye Cream https://www.target.com/p/yes-to-cucumbers-soothing-eye-gel-1-fl-oz/-/A-11269763
I use this eye cream at night as well as morning because it sends my eyes off to bed with a smooth layer of moisture. Whenever I use this product at night my eyes are much more calm and de-puffed when I wake up.
Step Five: Treatment
AM: Differin Gel https://www.cvs.com/shop/differin-gel-prodid-1190782
I use skin treatment in the AM because I wear SPF so it isn’t making my skin more sensitive to the sun and why not treat your problem spots all day! Differin Gel is clear and the adapalene in Differin is a light version of retinol, which helps treat blackheads, this product perfect for treating any little problem areas as well as larger breakouts all day long.
PM: Glossier “Super Pure” serum & Differin Gel https://www.cvs.com/shop/differin-gel-prodid-1190782 https://www.glossier.com/products/super-pure?search=super%20p
Super Pure is another one that took my skin just a little to get used to, but once it did I noticed a huge difference. This serum helped shrink the pores around my nose and overall is the best to calm down any bigger skin problems.
Step Six: Moisturiser
AM: Cera Ve PM https://www.cerave.com/skincare/moisturizers/pm-facial-moisturizing-lotion
I use a PM moisturiser in the AM because the AM version of this product has sunscreen which makes it a little too thick for a day time moisturiser in my opinion, this product is light and a soothing overall moisture treatment for my skin to have on every day, it has the hyaluronic acid which I love, and it treats my face all day which helps my skin feel soft when I wash my face at night.
PM: Glossier Moisturising Moon Mask https://www.glossier.com/products/moisturizing-moon-mask?search=moon
I use a hydrating mask overnight because I find its the best way to really treat my reactive and dry skin. I know this product works (for me) because my skin used to sting every morning when I would moisturise it, but now that I sleep with this product on and my skin feels great every morning. That was a huge issue with my skin so that is enough evidence for me love this product.
Step Seven(a): Sunscreen
AM: Color Science https://www.colorescience.com/products/sunforgettable-total-protection-face-shield-spf-50
Sunscreen is a must to wear on your skin every day, even if you follow one tip from this post, it should be this one. Keeping your skin healthy and protecting it from skin cancer is one of the most important things you can do. I like this one because it has a light tint so it gives my face some overall coverage, however this is just what I’m using right now, and every so often I switch out my sunscreen for another similar product. Overall I just like one with a light tint.
Step Seven (b): Spot Treatment
PM: MILK Makeup matcha mask https://www.milkmakeup.com/matcha-detoxifying-mask.html
I love using this as an overall mask when my skin is being super annoying with breakouts, however on the daily a just put a little dot of this product on any specific problem spots to help calm redness (with the matcha) and detoxify (witch hazel + kombucha).
