The United States Blind Spot: Rape Culture & the Race for the President
Part One: The Facts
The current president of the United States, Donald Trump has 25 verified allegations of sexual assault against him. These allegations consist of unwarranted kisses and gropes. In response to these allegations, Trump has either not acknowledged the claims or denied them based on these women being “not attractive enough” for Trump to assault. In some cases, Trump has also stated that in his eyes, his actions were not wrong claiming that it is normal for him to walk in on the girls changing in the Miss USA competition. Donald Trump's 1st wife, Ivana Trump has accused Donald Trump of raping her during their marriage. Trump's camp has stated that rape can’t occur in a marriage, however, that claim is false. Rape is defined as an unlawful sexual activity carried out forcefully, whether or not the parties involved are in a relationship is insignificant. If all parties don't consciously agree to what is happening, then that is rape or sexual assault, other information is inconsequential.
Trump and his team have also claimed that this behavior is just not in character for him. That assertion is bogus because there is direct clear evidence to the contrary. There is a recording in which, verbatim, Donald Trump states; “Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.” So, if Trump was not the type of person to sexually assault women, then why would he be talking to his friend about how easy it is to violate women? Simple. Because he is that type of person. And being elected president of the United States with these 25 claims, 25 women, speaking out against his past wrongs, won’t teach him to change his actions, because he has faced no repercussions.
Joe Biden, the 2020 democratic candidate also has allegations of sexual assault and pedophilia against him. Tara Reade was the staff assistant in Biden's senate. Reade has been trying to tell this story for years, but each time she had been shut down and failed. She states that Biden got her alone and sexually assaulted her. Fox News has posed a question, asking if Democrats will change their motto to “believe all women; except this one.” The answer to the question is no. On more than one level. First in no way are Progressive Democrats and Feminists (the group that has ushered in movements like ‘believe all women’) dismissing Tara Reades claims. The importance of “believe all women” stands, no matter who the claims of assault are against. Second, a headline like this proves how the right versus left, conservative versus liberal and republican versus democratic news war has sprung such a surge in not only ‘fake news’ (as Donald Trump likes to call it) but uneducated and wild claims. All in attempts to humiliate the other side. Sexual assault claims and the importance of taking them seriously is a mainly Democratic issue, so a claim like this against a Democratic candidate has shown how a divide can form in a group when a choice has to be made. Between a person, and an idea.
